Shack and equipment
My station consists of an Elecraft K3/100 as the main transceiver, an Icom 735,
the QRP Plus station from Index Laboratories, a MFJ antenna tuner and the MFJ
tuner for the Magnetic loop (on top of the IC735). I have a Bencher paddle as
well as a mini-paddle (Palm Radio) which I use mainly when operating in the
field.
The QRP Plus from Index Laboratories is in my opinion a fine radio, with a
fairly good receiver. It has got general coverage fom 1.8 MHz to 29.7 MHz ,
output power variable from 0 to about 10 watts, variable digital filters from
100 Hz to 2400 Hz, SSB and CW, full break in, built in keyer and - important
for portable use - a low power consumption on receive.
The MFJ remote
tuner is used as a watt/SWR meter.
The MFJ-1786 Super Hi-Q Loop antenna can be used between 10 MHz and 30 MHz.
Because of its limited bandwith the antenna has to be retuned every few
kilohertz, this is one of its disadvantages. However I have been able to work
all continents (mainly QRO = 100 watts output) .
